The birth of my daughter 3rd May 2000

Yesterday was Abbie’s birthday and it made me realise I’m still working through writing my birth stories from my midwife notes.

I did my eldest (Zac) a while ago, and with her birthday yesterday I thought ok… time to finally do hers. It won’t take long, it was my quickest labour.

Abbie Lilly

Born 3/5/2000 (13 days past EDD… for the THIRD time )

My smallest baby at 7lb 7oz (3.37kg)

She was breech at 33 weeks, I had really low iron (9.7) and ended up having iron injections from 35 weeks, but she turned head down thankfully, and my iron went up.

Labour started around midnight, Anna (my midwife) got the call at 2am and was there by 2.30. Things ramped up pretty quickly from there, contractions went from irregular to 2–3 mins apart, my sister Tan rubbing my back just trying to get through them.

Instinctively I knelt by the bed, waters broke at 4.10am, and then at 4.12am she was here.

Honestly I didn’t even realise she was coming. No big moment, no “I need to push”, she just slipped out and was suddenly there between my legs. Still one of the most surreal feelings.

Planned home birth with my midwife Anna and second midwife Samantha, my auntie there too, and even Wes woke up and wandered in.

I remember feeling completely washed out and nauseous, according to the notes I was feeling a lot more like myself by 6.30am, perhaps my body was a little in shock with the 2 hour labour!

Climbing into my own bed afterwards, nothing beats that. Just the best feeling.

I don’t remember heaps, just how FAST it all was, and the absolute shock when I realised she was a GIRL after two boys. To be honest I didn't realise how much I wanted a girl until I had her. For weeks after it just felt so strange to hang pink baby clothes on the line! Also I didn't think I'd dress my girl in pink!

So there you have it, birth story number two, my baby number 3

I’ll get Wes’s birth down on paper before his birthday in July, that’s the plan anyway.

I loved all my births!!! Thanks for reading

If I could turn back time...

1. More skin to skin

2. Less visitors & less passing my baby around for a hold

3. No structure to feeding and sleeps

4. Lots more contact naps
